Source1Medicine provides travel grants and logistics support so that cost and geography don’t stand between a patient and their best treatment option. If you’ve been matched to a trial and need help getting there, we want to hear from you.
We fund the full journey — not just part of it.
Round-trip airfare, train tickets, bus fares, or rideshare costs to and from the trial site. Caregiver travel included when medically necessary.
Nightly hotel stays near the research center for the duration of each visit, including multi-night stays for extended treatment windows.
Rideshare, rental car, or accessible transport between lodging and the trial site for each visit day.
A modest daily per diem for meals and incidental expenses during multi-day visits, so patients aren’t spending out of pocket while away from home.
When a caregiver or family member must travel with the patient, S1M will consider covering their transportation and lodging as part of the grant.
Many trials require multiple visits over weeks or months. S1M grants can cover recurring travel for ongoing trial participation, subject to funding availability.
Who Qualifies
S1M travel grants are awarded on a case-by-case basis. We prioritize patients with the greatest financial need and the greatest distance barrier, but we encourage any patient who has been matched to an active trial to apply.
You do not need to have found your trial through S1M to apply. If you have already been matched or enrolled in a trial at an accredited research institution and need financial help getting there, we want to hear from you.
Our team reviews applications within 3–5 business days. For urgent situations — where a trial visit is imminent — please note that in your application and we will prioritize your review.
Grant amounts vary based on your specific travel needs and available funding. S1M covers reasonable, documented travel expenses — we do not set a hard cap, but we do require documentation and exercise stewardship over donor funds.
No. If you have been matched or enrolled in an active trial through any source — your oncologist, another nonprofit, or ClinicalTrials.gov directly — you are still eligible to apply for S1M travel support.
No. S1M travel grants are gifts, not loans. There is no repayment requirement. We may ask for a brief follow-up after your trial visit to document outcomes for our donors and funders.
You will need to provide proof of trial enrollment (a letter from the research coordinator or principal investigator is sufficient), estimated travel costs, and basic personal identification. We keep all documentation strictly confidential.
